What to Expect During Your First Sound Bath

in Dec 5, 2025

If you're attending your first sound bath, you might be wondering what the experience will feel like. A lot of people walk into NewStarSeed feeling curious and a little unsure — that’s completely normal. We see it all the time. Most guests tell us afterward that they had no idea how deeply their body needed rest until they finally let everything go.

My goal with this guide is just to walk you through things the same way we would if you were standing in the studio with us.

What a Sound Bath Is

A sound bath is a deeply relaxing experience where you simply lie down and let calming sound frequencies wash over you. The “bath” comes from the way the vibrations from the bowls and other instruments surround your body.

We use crystal singing bowls, Tibetan bowls, chimes, gongs, and soft vocal tones. Each sound is chosen to help slow your mind down, settle your nervous system, and create space for clarity, grounding, or emotional release. Most people say it feels like their thoughts finally quiet for the first time in a long time.

When You Arrive

We recommend arriving 5–10 minutes early so you have time to breathe and settle. When you come in, we’ll check you in and you’ll choose your spot. Some people like being closer to the bowls, some prefer the edges of the room, and some immediately go straight for the hammocks.

Lay out your mat, pillow, and blanket however feels good for you. If you’re in a hammock, take a moment to rock gently and find your position — people usually smile the first time they feel the hammock sway. You’re welcome to lie down, sit, curl up under a blanket, or simply rest. There’s no wrong way to get comfortable.

How the Session Begins

We’ll start with a short grounding or breathing exercise just to help your body settle. After that, the instruments begin. You might notice your breathing slow down on its own or your shoulders naturally soften. Some people feel warm, some feel lighter, and some feel like they’re sinking into the mat or floating in the hammock.

It’s common for emotions to release gently. Some people even tear up without knowing why, and that’s okay — your body is just letting go of what it’s been holding.

What You Might Experience

Everyone experiences sound baths differently, but some things we often hear from guests include:

  • Deep relaxation
  • A sense of drifting or floating
  • Colors or gentle imagery behind closed eyes
  • Emotional clarity or “aha” moments
  • Subtle physical release
  • Falling asleep (this happens all the time)

There’s no goal and no expectation — your body will naturally take whatever it needs from the session.

After the Session

When the sound fades, we’ll guide you back slowly. Take your time sitting up, stretching, or sipping water. Some people like to stay quiet for a minute or two to let everything settle.

Most guests leave saying they feel lighter, grounded, or “like I can breathe again.” Everyone’s experience is unique, and there’s no right or wrong way to feel afterward.

What to Bring

To stay comfortable, we recommend bringing:

  • A yoga mat
  • A blanket
  • A pillow
  • Water
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Warm socks or extra layers

If you don’t have everything, don’t stress — just bring what you can.
